It's important to carry out feasibility studies on the topic before proposing it.  In my own case, for example, I provided the topic  DATA MINING APPROACH TO COUNTERTERRORISM  I also talked about how terrorism has dealt with my country and how the military has tried to counter-terrorism. I now proposed the application of Artificial Intelligence to curb terrorism. In the end, I was able to successfully secure the European Union scholarship. 

THE NEED TO LEARN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Words are not just enough to explain the situations one could be in when one is in a foreign land without the knowledge of how to communicate with the people- you'd feel lonely and alone. Have you ever been in a situation whereby you find yourself in the midst of people whose language is totally different from yours? you try to communicate but you can't. To even buy something you need would be a problem. Sometimes you may not even be aware that you would be traveling (like in my own case) for you to prepare ahead of time, maybe to try to learn a thing or two so that when you get there you can at least be able to communicate. When it comes to which foreign language you should learn, it's important to first of all take note of your environment. For example, I (as a Nigerian in West Africa) should learn French because French language is the official language of all the neighboring countries in Nigeria apart from the fact that French is one of the most spoken languages on earth...

WHAT YOU STAND TO BENEFIT BY SECURING A EUROPEAN UNION SCHOLARSHIP   The European Union offers a lot of scholarships targeted to African Students. I was one of the 7 Nigerian students selected by the European Union to participate in the AFRICOM project and just 6 of us were the only passengers on the aircraft from Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos State, Nigeria to Nsimalen International Airport, Yaoundé, Cameroon.     Apart from being the only passengers on the aircraft, we were given red-carpet reception, for example, before we got to Yaoundé, the Africom officials were already there waiting for us with ready vehicles to convey us to our already prepared apartments- (the apartments were top-notch).   When it comes to the monetary aspect, we were paid in EURO and we were paid several allowances ranging from settling-in-allowances, monthly stipends travel allowances as well as medical insurance.
